Church in the badlands

One of my most famous and well liked pictures is the church in the badlands. Most people that see it in the gallery don’t believe the area around is so desolate.
In my most recent trip through the Midwest, I took the somewhat difficult task of trying to find the church again. When I originally had found it, I was not sure of my location as I was lost and trying to find my way back to a paved road.
it took me the better part of a full day, asking park rangers in the Badlands National Park, and finally trying to backtrack my route from my trip 10 years ago, but I was finally rewarded by finding it again.

Minnesota’s Lake Superior shore

I have visited the shores of Lake Superior many times, and with every visit my fondness of this amazing lake increases. No, it does not have the vastness of the Pacific Ocean, or the unpredictable raw power of the Atlantic Ocean, but the peacefulness and tranquility you experience in its presence is unparalleled.
I took this little video clip on the morning I photographed the sunrise across the lake from the shores of Gooseberry State Park in Minnesota.

Malta MT

If you ever spend a night in Malta Montana, expect to hear the town’s main emergency siren at around 9:30 pm everyday. Don’t be alarmed, it’s not a nuclear attack. it’s just a curfew reminder to the town kids to start heading home.

The Northwest

Throughout the last week, I have been driving, hiking and camping along the west coast. Tonight, I am spending the night in Port Angeles in Washington after spending a couple of days hiking, camping and photographing the beautiful Olympic National Park.
The Beaches in the Northwest have some of the most diverse scenery I have ever seen. From the sandy beaches of Ocean Shores in WA to the rocky coast of South West Oregon.
I am attaching some pictures and videos from the current trip, I hope you enjoy looking at them, and I hope they inspire you to visit these truly amazing places and experience them.

Today was the annual Seal Beach care show. I am guilty, I love cars. Especially the classic ones. I know modern cars are much safer and more efficient now, but why can’t designers make great looking cars like they use to?

Masimo Croporation

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of getting a private tour of the World Headquarters of Masimo Corporation in Irvine. As some of you might already know that I hold a BS in Electrical Engineering, so any technical field draws my attention.

I am amazed at the science behind what Masimo is doing. They have collected some of the smartest people in the world, led by the founders of Masimo.

The medical devices they are making literally save lives. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was about getting this tour, and how impressed I am with their commitment to excellence.

I urge everyone to check out their products and inspiring story at http://www.masimo.com. This was started by a great idea and the hard work of two brilliant people. it was started from scratch, from a small apartment in Laguna Niguel, California.

It’s truly an inspiring story about how doing the right thing and hard work can eventually get you the results you desire.

Carmel by the sea….

In planning my trip today, I found a little factoid about Carmel that I didn’t know before.

Did you know that homes and businesses in Carmel don’t have physical addresses? They are known by name only.

I called someone in Carmel asking about their business address, I was told “we don’t have an address”. After hanging up, I was curious if that applies only to this business, so I looked it up. Sure enough, all houses and businesses in Carmel don’t have street addresses.

it’s been a while….

hello all, sorry it has taken me a while to blog. Things have been crazy busy. I have had a few trips since my last blog. I went back again to Maine and New Hampshire during the last part of February. As usual, I came back with a lot of exposed film and a lot of excellent images.

I have also done my yearly pilgrimage to the Sierra’s, without my camera this time. I just needed to get in some hiking and some nature without having to see nature through the camera’s lens.

The Gallery in Seal Beach went through a drastic transformation. All small open edition prints have been discontinued and a new color scheme and a new center wall were added to the interior design.

We also celebrated the Seal Beach gallery’s one year anniversary on Valentine’s day. It was more like a year and 3 months, but Valentine’s day as good as any to have a celebration, good food and great drinks. We had a great turn out, and I had the chance to meet a lot of people and talk to everyone.

Currently I am planning a big trip around the country that would take place in May. More information will follow in my blog.

Sand Art

My sister in law is from Belarus and she introduced me to this amazing video. When I watched it, I was immediately amazed by the quickness in which she works, yet the precise facial and body emotions she can portray in her art. The other thing that left an impression on me is how moved the audience was. I thought about it this later, so I did some research on Russian casualties of the WWII (at the time it was the Soviet Union). The numbers are staggering. Estimates range between 22 and 26million dead. that’s around 15% of the Soviet Union population at the time. Think about that toll. No wonder that art affected them so profoundly.

Two of my favorite towns

In all of my travel in the US I fell in love with two New Englad towns. Portsmouth New Hampshire and Boothbay Harbor Maine.

Something about these two towns that just feels warm and comfortable to me. yes, they are both touristy in the summer, but I think that combination of a real working town and the foot traffic that makes them feel right to me.

I took some videos of both towns, just walking around to give you an idea of what they look like.
